The Key Features of 21st Century Education are:

- Changed role of the teacher (Facilitator),
- Community relationships,
- Teacher professionalization.
An obvious question can come to our mind ‘Why has education changed so much lately?’ ‘Why is the traditional way of teaching and learning is not enough for our children to succeed in the 21st century?
The answer can be found in our changing world as the most of the recruiting companies are looking for people with strong SOFT SKILLS already and this tendency will be even more dominant in the future as most of the jobs do not exist yet what our children will do.
According to Laura A. Jana there is an estimation that two-thirds of our children will have a job that does not exist yet. So what skills do our children need to learn?
The answer is not easy. Of course the traditional – IQ – skills still must be taught such as reading, writing, counting; however, the so called soft skills – the non-cognitive skills – should have a great importance in teaching and learning.
Therefore, we need to teach our children to be able to succeed in the future the following 5 skills as well:
- Social skills
- Communicative skills
- Critical thinking skills
- Leadership skills
Our school, Avalon International School, has created a teaching methodology and curriculum which prepares the children for the 21st century – for our changing world.
